My child stepped on a nail today she had her tatnus shot back in 2002 does she need further care?

I hear that they are good for ten years but what the heck give the doctor a call Monday and see what they have to say. Better safe than sorry. God Bless and Peace out......My child stepped on a nail today she had her tatnus shot back in 2002 does she need further care?
It depends on how deep the wound is. You can also repeat tetanus in 5 years after an injury. Its difficult to clean a deep puncture and the risk for a serious infection is higher without medical care. redness, increased pain, pus or other drainage from the wound, fever all require immediate medical evaluation. good luck.My child stepped on a nail today she had her tatnus shot back in 2002 does she need further care?
Most doctors recommend having it every 5-10 years depending on what country you live and your overall health. I'd say it wouldn't hurt to give your doctor a call and see what thy think.
I work in urgent care...tetanus is good for ten years. The best thing to do is soak the foot...often too because feet have a lot of germs. make sure your child covers up the puncture with a band aide and triple anti biotic ointment. I should go to the doctor if there is fever swelling or any redness to the area but these things normally do well. Good luck
She only needs further care if you don't want her to get a serious infection.
the tetanus vaccine is good for 10 years, call your dr office to verify that it was given in 2002. How deep is the wound? Be sure to clean it well with soap. Put on an antibiotic ointment and keep it covered and therefore clean. Keep an eye on the wound to prevent infection. If it gets infected seek medical care, especially if a deep wound.
call your local nurse line, they help a lot
