i'm getting a habit of biting my nails in school and when i'm watching television, someone help meGet me tips of caring about nails...?
hey, firstly u would have to stop biting ur nails. ok do these things:- firstly, let ur nails grow little longer, coz this will stop ur biting habit. to make ur nail shine and whiter apply lemon daily on ur nails. get ur nails always an oval shaped with the help of a philer. oval shaped nails are better than ny other coz this kind of nails grow faster and do not get bitted up fast.use light shaded nail paint to have a beautiful look of ur nail.Get me tips of caring about nails...?

Put bandaids on your fingers to keep you from biting them. Also, when you watch tv, find something else to do with your fingers (knitting, crocheting, other things) so that you won't bite them.
put something that does not taste so good on your hands, like rubbing alcohol or polish remover. the taste is so disgusting you wont want to even put them in your mouth.
Here are my 3 great steps:


1:you go an get your nails done if your allowed


2:you put tape or a bandage on them


3:you paint your nails!!!
Try using Sally Hansen's Miracle Nailgrowth, it is a polish and it works. That is if you do not chew on them.
I also bite my nails to stop well to begin to stop i only would bite nails on one hand {Right} and then i would keep my nails don't so i wouldn't have nothing to bite. Eventually you will begin to think about mouth diseases you can get from bit ting your nails and u will start to think your hands are ugly.
I too used to bite my nails, but for the last 3 yrs. I have been wearing gel nails and I don't bite them anymore!

Because women are supposed to be the self-conscious ones. It shouldn't be termed a gay thing when it comes to men. There's nothing wrong with a guy who has good taste and looks immaculate. It's a different issue if the guy is known to be really vain!

Im from Melbourne, Australia and here it is pretty much expected that a guy take care of himself like that. So I wouldn't worry too much about people that say those sorts of things.
i don't know i think it's social stereotyping. i love it when men care about their appearance, i try to get my husband to use mens face care and to go to a salon for hair styling but he won't do it. so good for you, and I'm jealous. :)

I was convinced in to switching from acrylics to solars. Is there even a difference. I also read somewhere that you should apply cuticle oil on twice daily. Is this true? If so, what and where can I get some? Is there any other care advice that I should be aware of? Any help is gladly appreciated! No, there is not a difference. Solar nails are acrylic nails. This is a term often used by the discount salons to make you think you are getting something new, and better than acrylics, when all you are getting are simple Pink %26amp; Whites (Permanent French, Forever French - different names, but all the same thing). So, yes - they are acrylic. Just two different colors - pink, and white. In fact, acrylic powders are available in a very wide variety of colors. The possibilities in terms of color are really endless due to the fact that not only do many colors exist, but they can be custom blended to make other colors as well.


Using cuticle oil is always a good idea whather you have nail enhancements, or not. The idea with P%26amp;W's is to keep them looking shiny. But, cuticle oil will also help to moisturize your nails, and your cuticle area, which is a good thing. My personal favorite is Solar Oil by Creative Nail Design, though there are lots of good ones available. If you don't have cuticle oil, you can use Vitamin E, olive oil, and even vegetable oil will work just fine. Cuticle oils are available in beauty supply stores, as well as in major chain pharmacies such as CVS (in the U.S.) Also, make sure to use a moisturizing hand lotion after each time you wash your hands, or when you get them wet. This also helps with keeping the nails mositurized. Some people may wonder how any moisture can penetrate an acrylic nail's surface to do any good at all. Well, acrylic nails are porous. Thus, they readily absorb liquids of all types. And cuticle oil, hand lotions, and so on are liquids so they can, and will eventually penetrate the surface of the acrylic and work their way down to the natural nails. However, gel nails are porous, So this will not work the same way. They do not absorb liquids of any type. And if you had any type of UV gel topcoat applied on top of your acrylic nails, that also is non-porous and moisture will not readily penetrate the surface of the nail.


You need to have them filled about every two weeks, depending on how fast your nails grow. And once every other fill, you will need what is called a 'rebalance,' AKA - a backfill. This is necessary because, as your nails grow out, so does the 'white' extension. After a while, it really looks out of place being so far forward so a rebalance is done to place the white back to where it should begin - right on the smile line (free edge). You can buff them to a high shine yourself. All it takes is a good nail buffer/shiner, and a few minutes of your time. Add a drop or two of cuticle oil to each nail when finished, and massage into your nails and cuticles to bring out a super nice, high gloss shine.

Solar nails are similar to acrylic but are made with a slightly different product. They are not extensions like other acrylic nails because they are applied directly to your own natural nail.





Solar nails are just like a French manicure with all the pampering but without the hassle. They are applied in a two step application. If you like to tan, solar nails are wonderful as they do not turn yellow as some artificial nails do when you visit your favorite tanning salon.





Solar nails only need refilled about every 3 weeks. So, they are more convenient and economical than most artificial nails.





Just care for your hands and nails like always and you will never have a problem. You will be able to do anything that you normally do without worrying about being easy on your artificial nails.

In regards to taking care of Cockatiels, can I file their beaks slightly, I've learnt to clip wings&nails, but?

have noticed recently that 2 of my Tiels (have 4) that 2 of them have really pointy sharp beak ends, is that something that is done in grooming Tiels/Birds, filing the beaks a bit? And if so, how is it done? Can I just use a buffing type file, I wouldn't think a course one would be very comfortable for them, the 2 that have the sharpest that I am concerned about are the babies, their both over 6 months now, Clover was born last year in December and Chloe was born this last May and they seem to be getting longer (the beaks). By the way, I do keep stones and sandpaper type stuff in their cages to chew on, and they chew quite regularly, but the beaks are still really sharp, A Tiel that was born with Clover in December that I gave to a friend, his beak is starting to curl slightly under, what's the story on that? Some people do have the beaks of their parrots gently filed to dull the point a little. This must be done very carefully though since the beak is living tissue with blood vessels and (probably) nerves. Its a bit tricky, and one has to be gentle with a very light touch. I've never done it, and can't picture any of my birds voluntarily sitting still for it. They won't chew on stones, and any type of paper isn't going to get the beak trim :)





Since they are so bad it is best to get them trimmed by a professional at the vet or at your local bird shop. Ask to watch how they trim the beak so you know how it looks


But if you give them the items they need the beak should not get so overgrown ;)





In the future a cuttlebone and calcium block are good ways to keep the beak trim, also all cockatiels should have one for calcium.


Also soft wood toys, rawhides, and cardboard work as beak trimmers. These also should be given so the cockatiel has something to play with, many people make the mistake of only giving hard acrylic toys that the cockatiel does not really want to chew on :)





Also, what is their diet? A bad diet of only seed can cause beaks to look cracked, overgrown and generally not good looking.

There are some pretty raunchy questions here, so I doubt it is yahoo suppressing them. Most likely it is the way you word the questions to begin with. Liberals want to suppress you, especially if your question doesn't agree with them. Your question would be more apt to get by the liberal censors if your lead in question was more neutral. That way it would make them have to work harder to determine whether your question should be censored.

In my experience biting one's nails is an emotional response to anxiety which manifests itself in the physical act of biting one's nails. How to care for my new false nails?

I had some acrylic false nails put on the 4 days ago, but i'm not sure how to look after them. I've bitten my nails since i was tiny, so I don't know how to care for them normally, let alone false ones! I had them done at a nail salon(?) by professionals, but what starts to happen when they grow out?

As soon as they start to grow out, go back to the nail shop and ask to switch from acrylic to solar nails. Acrylic nails don't last and they get gross really fast. But you can keep solar nails for years if you want to. All you would have to do is get them refilled when they grow out. (about every 2 or 3 weeks depending on how fast yours grow. They take care of the cuticle and everything so you need not worry about a thing). No other maintenance required.How to care for my new false nails?
I was in the same situation...i have always bitten my nails, and for graduation and the summer, i got acrylics. When your nails grow out, the acrylics stay with your nail they were glued to, so you have to get them filled every 14 days AT THE MOST! If you let them go longer than that, you are putting yourself at risk for getting a nail fungus because water can get trapped between the nail and acrylics and it can grow. Dry your hands completely after washing them to also prevent fungi...that's pretty much what i did, and mine were fine! :D

No most guys look at **** and arses and then the rest of the package as long you are neat, clean and tidy and pleasant and courteous. they look at the whole package not little bits except they do look at **** and arses first. Bizare i know but think about what women look at in men and its the same, chest, ****, arms and eyes and hands, and general overall appearance.

No -- we don't care about your fingernails as long as they're not those ridiculously long acrylic jobs with murals painted on them (ack!). What we like are nice breasts and/or nice asses. For some, asses are WAY more important than breasts. For others, it's all about the breasts. Everything else is negotiable.

My husband loves the french manicured look. When we were dating, I used to ge them done just for him. He told me once how sexy he thought french manicured nails were on a woman, and how classic and feminine it was, so for a formal holiday Military function, I surprised him with very sexy french manicured acrylic nails.

I notice women's nails all the time, one of the first things I look at. First thing is they have to be clean. Nicely polished is fine but not necessary.

Clean is always a plus. Fake nails are OK as long as their not obviously fake. Long nails are a turn off ... kinda like stuffed animals on the deck of your car.

So, I haven't had very long nails for most of my life. This past summer I've been keeping my nails painted, so I can't see their length and have the urge to start ripping/tearing at them.





But now that they're long, I don't know how to care for them, and I've gotten several broken nails recently :( How do I stop that? Does using clear nail polish actually help with that?

Be very careful with nail polish--I understand that it's helping you keep your mind off the new length, but when it starts to chip, the places where it wears off become weak compared to the painted parts. When the polish starts to chip, just take it off and start again.


Once a week, soak or paint or nails in olive oil--it'll keep them strong and healthy. A good cuticle cream or hand cream will help with that as well.


When one of my nails breaks down low, I usually put a few drops of super glue or nail glue on the break and set it. After the nail underneath grows back a bit, the glued (dead) nail will come off, and you won't experience the pain that comes with having no nail to protect your nail bed. Clear nail polish won't help keep your nails from breaking, but purchasing a product like Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails will help keep your nails strong.Oh god, i'm such a long-nails virgin. I have the same problem. Keeping them trimmed up and not all jagged is always good, and try not to keep them too long or they will just break off. Experiment with different lengths and see what the longest is that you can keep them at without them breaking off. Taking calcium pills helped me too.
clear nail polish only helps to keep your nail polish on longer but to help your nails is to file them and i have this stuff called ';sally hanson'' age correct STRENGTH dry + brittle nail care in a pink bottle it helps strengthen my nails really well to put it on every week or so before i paint my nails
THere is special nail cream you get to toughen ur nails and prevent them from breaking the brand i have is called earth theraputics, its for nails and enamels and it really works also make sure to file ur nails regularly!
Theres several nail polishes that are designed to make your nails stronger, just look for them. And yeah, clear polish should help.

there is a nail polish that tastes bad that you can put on your nails to stop biting them. As for the cuticles....there are cuticle oils you can buy I know Sally Hnason makes one.
I used to be a nail biter as well. Use cuticle oil. It softens your cuticles and tastes horrible so you won't want to chew on them anymore.

yes..only one reason..the nails, especially those down the toes are the farthest part of the body, and usually are betrayed of good hygiene..so if you in as far as keeping your nails clean, doesn't have to be fancy, that is a very very big deal!!! we might think that your a little meticulous, but for the most part your neat..which nice don't you think?

My little girl used to bite her nails. I suggested that she try to stop biting just one of them - the nail on her little finger. She concentrated on this one finger to begin with, then two fingers etc.. This worked, as she now has the most beautiful strong healthy nails. I think is is worth a try.I have bitten my nails for more years than I care to say can anyone give me some good advice Please?
use the varnish that they say and always keep your fingers busy. i mean always busy.
I m totally in the same boat, but i have succeeded in growing them now. This is how i did it:


Buy some false nails. I get ';broadway nails'; theyre the short length ones, they have little tabs on the end that you break off after you have finished applying them. They cost 拢7.49 (expensive i know) but they last for about 2 weeks, and by then your nails have grown quite a bit.


Then buy a good nail hardener. I but tesco's ';make-up'; i think it's called goobye yellow. It has got a unique whitening agent which helps your nails look healthier and not to mention stronger.


My nails are beautiful and strong now. All because i bought a packet of false nails!

The horrible tasting stuff did not stop me biting my nails, you could try cutting your nails short so there is nothing to bite or get a friend to follow you around and poke you whenever your fingers go near your mouth.





Another option is to wear gloves





You could also try chewing gum to keep you mouth busy and keeping your hands busy fiddling with anything from pencils, paperclips, marbles, or anything which comes to hand.

Put some of that nail varnish on them ( It's not like nail varnish though becausee you can't see it ) that tastes really really bad, so then you won't bite them
If your a guy, put some clear nail polish (just on the tips so it doesn't show). That should make it somewhat unattractive to your senses. And you should eventually get over it. Good luck.

Im on the verge of stopping my habit friend! you need to think about why you want to stop. There lots of germs under nails and the taste is awful! I found progression was the key, make sure you dont bite back too far where you get them little cuts that really sting and try to start by leaving your thumbs them nails can come in handy. Will Protein strengthening/repair hair care products work with nails?

I'm a nail-biter that doesnt realize how stupid it is till I bit them. Now im looking for ways to reduce the uncomfortable feeling, and I was wondering if products such as Garnier-Fructis shampoo/conditioner would help repair and regrow the nail quicker, since hair and nails are made of the same protein, keratin. If not or so, what works the best for you/ to your knowledge?

If you are looking for something that you can find in your house, try applying regular vegetable oil to your nails. It works pretty much in the same way as cuticle oil does by moisturizing the nail and cuticles. And this in turn will help to make them strong and healthy. But, only one application won't do much of anything. If you are going to do it right, you have got to apply it 2-3 times a day - every day. Same goes for cuticle oil. Also, use a moisturizing hand cream each time you wash your hands, or get them wet. Always dry them as soon as possible, and apply lotion. Massage it into your cuticles and nails as well. This also moisturizes your nails. Olive oil is another good one. And vitamin E capsules split open and the contents applied to your nails will also work well. But I doubt that hair strengthening products would work on your nails. I cannot prove it, but I just kinda doubt it.Will Protein strengthening/repair hair care products work with nails?
I work @ GNC and would recommend a supplement called ';Hair, Skin and Nails'; or just plain Biotin. Garnier would not help your nails because you are not ingesting it or applying it to your nails. Also, you could get that stuff you paint on your nails which stops you from biting them (it tastes awful).
this is kinda different than what your asking for, but i have a sally hansen or w/e its called nail biter stuff. and its pretty cheap, it tastes real bad so that when you go to try and bite your nails you get grossed out and dont bite them. you apply it like nail polish =) its awesome!

I have never had ';fake'; nails before. A friend convinced me to get white tips. I like them, but I really do not know what I have gotten myself into. How do I care for them? I know I should get a fill in a few weeks, but then when do they come off? How do they come off? You'll need to have the bottom of your nails (near the cuticle) filled aver 2 weeks. About every 4-5 weeks they will fill in the white by drilling it out and putting new white in. They will come off when you have the nail salon take them off or you can buy artificial nail remover at the drug store.


If you want natural looking nails, the only thing I can suggest is to have them put gel or acrylic over your natural nails and let them grow. Do not get tips for length. Just get clear acrylic.

Go for regular fills and whatever you do, don't rip them off if you get sick of them. Go back to the salon to get them removed or soak them in pure acetone at home.





Make sure you are going to a good salon who is not too rough on your nails with the dremmel.. if it hurts when they are applying the nails, its not right in my opinion. They will often buff your real nails so much, to make the gel stick, but this makes your nails weak. It also makes it very frustrating when you decide to remove them.





If you keep your natural nails painted and filed, it is really easy to keep them looking nice. You can do this yourself or at a salon. Personally, I like to do them myself and save some money to play around with nail polish colours.

I had french tips (fake; acrylic) I put them on on May 21st. I took them off on June 1st. I chewed them off by the way. The texture of my nails feels rough, and it has white lines and details on it. I tried to put nail polish remover that nourishes the nails on it and I soaked it, then I washed my hands in warm water with soap. Then I got warm water and soaked my nails in it and got a toothbrush and brushed my nails. They aren't as bad as they were, but the white stuff is still there. I swam in the pool yesterday, but I took them off later that day. I'm going to go swimming again today. I need help on how to fix the white stuff and the rough texture on my nails. Any suggestions and help?Nail Care...????????
Well, I don't think the white stuff will go away, but the lines will go away if you buff ur nails. ( but don't buff to much ) Buffing ur nails will make it soft and smooth out the lines.Nail Care...????????
If it's left over acrylic on your nails, go to the store %26amp; buy pure acetone. Soak your nails in it and slowly work the left over stuff off. I would buy some sort of nail polish that will restore your nails too, fake nails are HORRIBLE for your real nails. Hope it helps!

My friend superglued my nails with acrylic nails a couple of weeks ago. They actually didn't look bad. Honestly, I have never had them done before because they always look so fake on gals. These ones were shorter and of the french nail variety.





Anyway, they started to fall off. I am concerned about the long term effects of wearing fake nails. The fake nails left horizontal scratch marks on my real nails. Also, a couple of them are left with green streaks that I can't get off. Looks gross, like maybe something fungal?





So, for you gals that use acrylic nails all the time, how do you take care of your real nails. I can't afford a salon. I just want good looking healty nails. I would like to try the acrylic nails again...but don't want to end up with some narley infection.

The products do not tear your nails apart. Its when you go to an unskilled,and inexperiences tech, that is when your nails get torn apart. This usually happens when the person overfiles your nails using a tool - a Dremel, on your nails. Mind you, a dremel is not made for use on nails, they are designed for use with woodworking and other hobbies. They are not safe for use on nails, and - in fact, they are illegal to use on nails in several states. Now, put an illegal tool which is not designed for use on nails in the hands of an unskilled discount salon 'worker' and you get quite a recipe for disaster. They will ruin your nails almost 100% of the time. And no, the acrylic brands are not the same. These same discount salons buy their supplies at the lowest possible cost. This means that you are getting the cheapest acrylics available used on your nails. The difference in cost can be pretty large. For example, I have seen monomer (the liquid) for sale - by the gallon, in discount nail supply houses for only $35 a gallon. For comparison, a high quality monomer made by reputable nail companies will cost an average of $200-$250 per gallon. And when I say cheap, I do mean cheap in every way. The stuff they use on you in discount salons is such trash, it's unbelievable. Quite often, these chemicals they use are even illegal since they contain MMA - a hazardous chemical which is known to be harmful to humans when used on nails in it's liquid form. It has been banned by the FDA for almost 25 years now, but is still available through underground supply houses. Why would these kind of salons use this bad stuff on your nails? One word: Cheap. This type of monomer is dirt cheap, that's why. And they continue to use it anyway despite it's nasty reputation within the nail industry. Cheap acrylic products will turn yellow easily, they will have an awful look to them when your nais are done, and those products can be quite harmful to humans as well. High quality products cost a LOT more than the stuff discount salons use, they do not yellow, and your nails will not fall off when it is applied correctly. But to apply acrylic - or gels correctly takes skill and proper product education. Those are two things that the typical discount salon worker most often lacks - both skill, and training. Many of them are simply not qualified to work on nails, and many are not even licensed to do nails.


So, the next time you have your nails done, be sure that you avoid the discount salons at all costs. Sure, it will cost you more money to go to a reputable, highly skilled nail technician who uses nothing but the highest quality acrylic products, but the end result will be soooo worth it. You will be able to notice the difference immediately upon walking in to the salon. There will not be any Dremels in use. The salon will be clean, the implements will have been properly disinfected, and no files will be used on more than one client. If you went to a discount salon to have your nails done, then that is the main reason that your nails looked so bad. And the use of dirty implements, or the lack of disinfection of implements and tools is the #1 reason that people, like yourself, end up with a case of the 'greenies.' BTW, that is a bacterial infection, NOT a fungus.


Avoid discount salons...That in itself will leave your nails in good condition since they won't be ruined by some unskilled worker. BTW, a discount salon is one that typically charges about $25-$30 or less for a full set of acrylics. The average cost for acryic nails is $48. It may sound like a great idea to save some money by going to one of these places, but most people end up in pain during, or after the nails services have been performed. And most regret going in the first place. Avoid that kind of thing. Don't go to any discount salons. Period.Ladies who wear acrylic nails. How do you take care of your real nails?
If you cant really afford going to a salon for acrylics don't even bother. the chemicals are really harsh on your real nails. they tear them apart.





Try getting a nice manicure every other month instead if you can and you can also buy a kit at your local drug store and give your self a manicure.





That's the best way to guarantee your nails will look healthy.

nail buffer - makes your nails smooth and shiny, shouldn't cost more than 拢2.


cuticle sticks - good for tidying up your cuticles, also pushing them back seems to help nails grow faster. Come in packets costs less than 拢1.


emery boards - costs less than 拢2 for a packet of them.


nail hardener - looks like clear nail polish, moisturises nails and strengthens them. Costs about 拢3.


nail clippers - you probably have one but stick with the emery board if your nails are quite weak.


nail polish remover - again you'll probably have this. Use it sparingly since it dries your nails. Don't try to scrape nail polish off as it just damages your nails.

My nails are a little uneven on the surface (so when I run my nail across them, i can feel it go up and down) and are a little dried out. My cuticles are also a bit dry, and the parts around the edges of the nail (near the tip of the finger) are dried.





What kind of products do you use at home to treat your nails? Such as files, buffers, lotions, etc. Are there any good affordable kits that you have used that you have liked? I need something to softly file the nails, to smooth the nail surfaces, to soften the cuticle and overall skin near the nails.





I also have callouses on my left hand from guitar, so I don't want anything that will soften those up too much.

try not to use nail polish, that stuff will dry out your nails and take the luster out of them if you're really concerned..





i really like the 4-way buffer they have at like.. Sally's beauty supply, or probably any salon shop at that matter. it's a pretty inexpensive file/buffer that really smooths out those ridges on your nails (in fact one of the steps is.. ';smooth out ridges'; haha) it's less than 5 bucks and it works well in my opinion.





normal lotion should be fine. i'm a gymnast so the callouses on my palms are pretty precious too. don't use the ';hand repair'; stuff or deep overnight moisturizing lotions because that'll leave your hands feeling oilyWhat products do you use to care for your nails/fingers?
You can get a nile file and file them to a nice shape and a good size. But before you do that put some hand cream on so the nails are a bit easier to file down and your hands feel soft!





Then buff them so they are soft and shiney!





Now use a cuticle stick and push your cuticles down. Now put on some cuticle oil so your cuticles are not all dry.

cuticles: u first need to soften ur cuticles with hand lotion (or cuticle cream or oil if u have it), then after u take a shower or bath use a wet washcloth and gently push ur cuticles back off of the nail (make sure that u dont use orangewood sticks or cuticle sticks becuz even though they r meant for cuticles they can be too rough on ur nails) %26amp; never try to cut ur cuticles becuz u could damage the seal they create between ur nail and the skin on ur finger





biting nails: there are many different reasons why people bite their nails. 1) ur bored-keep ur hands busy with something else (toy ball, hair, etc). 2) ur nervous-relax ur body to reduce ur stress level %26amp; take deep breaths. 3) ur nail has broken and u want to get rid of the sharp edge on ur nail-keep a pair of nail clippers nearby so that u dont need to use ur teeth.

I used to have the same problem. I take a zinc supplement for my skin and i think this also helps with hair and nails.


But the thing that made them strong and the tips white is ';revitanail'; by Dr Lewinn. Clear nail polish that you apply according to a regime. The only other thing i do is a basic file every now and then. every 2 or 3 weeks i do a harder file and bring the length down a bit. They ruin your natural nails and it take to long to grow them out. You can also get some very nasty infections from them. Stuff that takes forever to get rid of. Some salons are very unsanitary. Staph infections etc. Stuff that can kill you believe it or not. A waste of money. Most guys don't like to feel like you are carrying a weapon at all times.

In my experience men only notice if the nails need redone. They usually want them gone. Unless they want to have their back scratched. I have natural nails that are strong and grow long. I have heard comments from my dates if the waitress needs hers redone and the guy usually says that they look tacky if not kept up. I have been asked by men if mine were real or fake. How you tell if a guy notices is he will lift your hand and turn it over to see if there is another nail or not. On fake nails you can see the real nail and it makes a line.

I just got acrylics put on for a wedding coming up this weekend. I'd like to consider keeping them long term and getting them refilled every 2 to 3 weeks... try putting on extra clear coat top coat i do that with mine and it helps to keep them from getting yellow i have to say if you are going to keep them long term consider a UV gel i found they stay better than acrylic or if you are staying with acrylic consider a white tip instead of airbrushing as airbrushing can turn yellow maybe mention the problem to your manicurist next time see if they can make some professional recommendations or take extra care when applying the acrylic.Care for acrylic nails??
My mom does nails. It just depends on the product.Try to get the best product you can. If you're doing nails for fun and just for a one day thing, you can get by w/getting a cheaper product. If you want to maintain nails, get Solar Nails. It also depends on how your nail technician does nails. Make sure when she files/grinds the acrylic, she gets around the edges and sides of your nails to seal them in. If not, they will come up from the sides. Don't pick at them either! If you see a side coming undone, get some super clue and put a little bit in there. It'll seal it up. If half of your nail comes undone, seal it or get it replaced. When you have cracks and don't fix them, water gets in and you can get a fungus.
Go over them with a clear top coat every couple of days, because the polish will begin to wear away with normal handwashing, bathing etc... Also, depending on how fast your nails grow have them filled AT LEAST every 2 1/2 weeks. After about 2-3 months or so, you should probably get them taken off completely and get a whole new set put on. Your manicurist will suggest this when it is time. When they begin to lift, you risk fungus and infections so a new set is a must when they beigin to lift too much.

I always had problems when I got acrylic nails. My nail bed is very flat and my actual nail kind of curves up on the ends so my nail problems are terrible.





If you have good nails why not just get your nails painted and buffed every couple of weeks
thats not an abnormal problem to have. I have been wearing acrylic nails for years and every once in a while I get that problem but they fix it when you go to get a fill in. If you wanna fix it yourself, all you have to do is use a dab of nail glue, that's all they are going to do at the salon anyway.
You've already gotten a lot of good advice, but I'm going to throw in one more tip for you...





Oil your nails!! A drop or two of a cuticle/nail oil a couple times a day (personally, I use Solar Oil deom Creative) makes a world of difference. It also keeps your cuticles nice and soft.
Wear gloves when washing dishes, or using cleansers. If your nails are wet alot (besides normal washing of hands) can contribute to nail fungus.





DO NOT USE ACETONE nail polish remover! That will ';melt'; your acrylics.





Try not to use your nails as tools because that can weaken the bond between the plastic and your natural nail.

I can take them either way. However, if a woman is going to paint their nails, maintain them. Chipped, messed up nails are so unattractive. Make sure the color is complementing and not out of control. Also nail length and care is very imprtant. only time it bothers me is when they use the crazy colors like green, black, or purple you know the wild colors. I personally like to painted nails if they are a soft color.
