Dog with a pulled nail? What to do to care for at home?

My Yorkshire Terrier (5 y/o male), has a 'pulled nail.' By this I mean, it's not been pulled all the way out... but he got it caught on something and it pulled it to make the nailbed red and swollen. You can touch it and it is fine, but if you gently tug it yourself (how we found out what was wrong), he whimpers. I have been giving him an antibiotic orally and putting an antibiotic ointment on it. I've also been trying to ice it for him, but he stays still for about 2 minutes and then fights to get out of my arms. I'm supposed to take him back Tuesday if it's not getting better. So, it's Sunday and it's been two days since I found out about the pulled nail and I don't think it's getting any better. Any other things vets. have had you do? Anything else I can do it relieve it at home? How long to heal? Thanks!Dog with a pulled nail? What to do to care for at home?
For dogs paws and um... surrounding areas it's a good idea to put a used tea-bag on it. It's meant to bring down swelling and ease some pain. I've never tried it and it may be an old-wives-tale but it's cheap and worth giving a go.Dog with a pulled nail? What to do to care for at home?
never had that problem

did u go to the vet

there nails aint nothing to play with, good luck
If it's been that long and the dog still has the symptions your describe I don't think it's a ';pulled nail';. Sounds more like an infection, by that I mean something has either A) become lodged under the nail or skin in that area and is causing the pain, discomfort, swolleness and redness or B) there is a cut of somesort in this area. You may want to have a closer exam of the area done by either yourself (and someone helping you) or the vet with a sedative. Good luck.
